Before the kayaking could be done the day took on a radically different turn.
We went for a walk with Ivy, the fastest Berner in the West, Cleo and Sven. Ostensibly to check the levels of water and damage, and to see if it was worth taking the kayak out.
A river ran across the lane and seconds after this picture was taken
yours truly had a bit of an impact with planet Earth and something went bang in my left arm. The cause of my demise was Ivy who scythed me down like a corn stalk. She also took the opportunity to help herself to the biscuits and treats in my pockets while I tried to make sense of this sudden change in circumstance.
Clearly I was in a bit of bother but manned up enough to check the river
and supervise poo sticks
in the tempestuous river, it had been over bridge depth at one stage.
Using a trick copied from Napoleon the slow walk back to HQ was completed
via the flooded lane which would have been good for kayaking had my arm been serviceable.
The dogs couldn't make sense of this strange sunlight water world.
Sven was seriously unimpressed.
He refused to wade any further than absolutely necessary.
Recce confirmed it would not be a good idea to attempt any sort of departure from HQ even if a poorly arm might need medical attention.
Back at HQ a brave face was put on the swelling appendage which was hard to move and had a familiar crunching sound if you tried too hard. Those that know me will perhaps know my skill at breaking my left arm and the fact that it is held together by parts of the space shuttle.
The funny bone arear was particularly humerus, thanks, I'm here all week!
Knees and hip were also aggrieved after the sudden impact.
But as we were going no where a quiet night in in front of the painkillers was had with the trip to A+E to look forward to in the morning. Given the adventures ahead for end of October and the start of November his little bump is a bit of an inconvenience!
