Above is Bridget the sheep-pig, with a lovely fleecy coat. Below is near death Roxy (she of nine lives seven down two to go) who is now fully recovered from her latest near death, see previous posting with Vet doing heroic James Herriott impression, and is now getting fat, sun burnt as her wool has fell off so pink and like a pig-sheep.

Why did Roxy's wool fall off, is because her body is putting it's energy towards healing ? And since she so much trouble and nearly died from this birth, have you thought of not breeding her again ? And just have her as a pet, maybe to be a retired to a petting zoo ? Or will she end up mutton ?

No! Roxy is definately a pet. We tried to keep her away from Crispen last year but he caught her. We will be more careful this year!Petting Zoo? She lives in one! :)
Good hear, sorry didn't think you had to tried to keep her from being mated. And sorry to suggest she might end up mutton. And yes she does seem to live in a petting zoo :) I know nothing about sheep, and this might utterly stupid since people mostly want sheep to breed. But could their be a natural or inexpensive birth control or product to give her that might fool her system into thinking she is already pregnant and not go into heat ? Or would that be a waste of time because Crispen would made with her any way even is she didn't go into heat.

I think on larger farms some birth control is used, called fences :)
Well I looked up some information about sheep birth control. Apparently some types of Clover give off estrogen when the sheep eat them. A website I was reading about them, warned about feeding it to breeding ewes. As for fences I don't care what animal you have, they will figure out a way to mate if their is any possible way. And some sheep can climb, and if Roxy is definite enough she might climb into Crispen's pen.
