weather patterns and maths puzzles

The freak weather patterns, for that's what they are now (April showers? any? none here) (March winds? nope) (Flaming June? Give me a break! Anyway July having been particularly damp, but no where near as damp as Germany and the low countries where its gonna take more than a plucky young man with an enquiring  digit to rectify that mess in the dyke, has now given way to an excessive heatwave.
I say excessive as it took 43 seconds to switch from moaning about how it was more like November to its too hot. So the tote bags that adorn the lane were emptied, well two were and the gravel laid more or less level on the only flat space without a building on it at HQ. Naturally helped by the clan who find clean gravel totally amazing.
Just like the box said, 20 minutes later an oversize puddle holder was erected plus of minus two hours.
One erected it needed filling with H2O, cue small inquisitive child with a penchant for maths who calculated the 1236 gallons required to fill it was approximately 9888 pints or 2x that half pint glasses which is why he started before dinner as that would take around 1.186,560 seconds or roughly 329.5 hours which assuming each glass took 1 minute to fill and empty he had a fortnight non stop providing none evaporated or spilled, This was then reduced to 3.5 days non stop by switching to 2 pint glasses but this assumed the 2x 2 pint glasses filled at the same rate as 4 half pint glasses bit time was saved bu only walking one trip not 4 so...
yes he is like this all the time by the way... so I let him get on with it and by 14.25 gallons, some was spilled...
I gave him an upgrade. Just for peace and quiets sake.
