A Grand Day Out!!

As there was a break in the weather I chose Shank's Pony as a mode of transport today, taking the easy (and dry)  route around The Bonsai Mountain and across Hergest Ridge. The sky was blue (almost) the sun shone, Skylarks larked noisily, numerous walkers all made a fuss of Rocky the clan patriarch and all was well in my world. Then this happened (above)
Preston aged 21 years, a Beagle of dubious character, who was as far as I was concerned a long way away asleep on the helipad had somehow got it into his head to come and join us. As we were now over the hills and far away from Rock HQ the only choice was to press on regardless. Regardless of the fact that I had only one lead, an ancient beagle with no collar who had never walked on a lead, never been any where more populated than our house and who had certainly never seen anything like a bus. Luckily I found a small piece of string attached to a balloon blowing across the landscape so used that to tether Rocky to my left hand while my right held the lead with a bewildered canine who was trying to come to terms with pedestrians, shops, cars, lorries and other assorted town hazards.

I don't think Preston has ever walked so far in his long life and it was certainly a terrific achievement for such an elderly hound. Once at the office he had a quick look around, several chocolate hob nobs
before relaxing on the sofa until a taxi (aka Grandma) turned up to take him home.
Rocky on the other paw knew what he had to do so placed himself on guard by the biscuits.
