Today we were determined not to let the rise of the machines get us down. So we purposefully chose not to mention sick Volvo's or naughty Rx4's. Instead we threw ourselves into the jobs list and got loads done while at the same time taking time out to remind ourselves how lucky we are to live here. Water pipes got laid to the pig pen, new acres of bracken were destroyed with the stroppy live strimmer, the feed was unloaded from Trixie and Hetty got cleaned out and a new bed made for her and the pigs. I took a few of the clan around the Bonsai Mountain and found that sheep skull lane had a new inhabitant. It looked peaceful enough so I guess it just lay down and woke up in celestial pastures. Strange thing that they go there to die, is it like the mythical elephants graveyard for sheep, or do they just think its a nice spot, or perhaps the militia dump them there. Who knows, but the lane earns its name.
I might have had an ulterior motive on the walk, I might have been checking the apple trees en route, andthat included a few that are in the gardens of the holiday cottages on the hill. By the looks the owners are in for a bumper crop of apples. If they are quick.
Our pigs are definitely in for a bumper feed, the leftovers the horses, cow, goat and sheep can have. The damson trees look full, the sloes are bending the branches and the plums are plenty. A good harvest for those with massive rucksacks and motivation.
On return to Rock HQ Geisha was acting lady muck of the yard by making a nest in Trixie and settling down for a snooze. She soon changed her mind about sleeping there when I fired up Rene to reverse down the track. I'm getting better, the 200 yards only took 37 minutes and 3568 miles worth of clutch. More work got done on the new website. The horses got a good leg stretch in the cauldron, our sheep are getting fatter and in all there was lots to be cheerful about today.
The day ended with a visit to the Technohermit to give him a share of our Sunday roast. He was very happy to be given an extra helping of roast spuds. Funny how the most simple things can generate the biggest smiles.
I mean look at her, a bit of dry hay to lie on and she's beaming!
