This is the back of the kennel, or the side, depending on how you look at it. The Kennel block was built by a friend of ours called Karl, you will find him in Thailand tied to a palm tree, but that's another tale (see archive) Anyway way back when, February 07 we were lucky enough (I think lucky is the word) to persuade him to leave sunny Scotland and come and live with us for a few weeks so he could help me, who at the time only had one arm that was serviceable, build some outbuildings and then in return we would pay for him to go to Thailand so he could meet the love of his life whom he had met via the world wide web.
Karl is an exceptional fellow and a great friend. His approach to carpentry involved a resolution never to measure anything and a motto, why use one piece of wood when three will do! The symmetry of the planks hides a horror story internal structure composed of off cuts, bent nails, impossibly strange angles and joints that would have made M C Escher glow with pride. Instead of having a neat array of 6 identical kennels we have five and half bespoke units, some have interesting cross beams that catch you a nice blow across the forehead, others have planks that just end in space for no apparent reason, all have a liberal helping of six inch nails bent over and hammered to fit. Today was the day the Kennel block came to the top of the to do list. Somebody had to do something about this waste of space and that someone was me. Tracey would have done it, and probably done it better than me but as she was poorly and a bit bruised after falling over a fence post someone had carelessly left lying around, she took on a supervisory role towards the end.
As Misty is close to producing an even little pony we need another stable and so a thirty foot long Kennel block for two very ancient Beagles and a deranged Gordon Setter seems a bit on the extravagant side. Today with the judicious use of a chainsaw, electric drill, log splitter and hammer I made the necessary conversion giving a nice 12 by 10 stable for the ponies to play in. So good is this new stable that Tracey thought it was good enough for a full sized horse not the smalls. She was joking. I hope.
