Poor girl
This is Finn, or as we have renamed her Penn, short for Penny, a lovely Rottweiler we are fostering. Now I must admit to having all the prejudiced views about this breed and have never taken to them but she was a dog in need after being abused by previous owners so we agreed to give her a home until a permanent place is found.
When she first arrived she was terrified of her own shadow, jumped out of the way if you walked towards her and recoiled if you reached out to give her a pat. Clearly she was afraid of men and spent most of her time avoiding me. She is, however, exceptionally gentle and has made friends with all creatures great and small at Rock HQ. Totally untrained and not even knowing her name she needs a kind and attentive owner to give her a home for life. She is getting very used to the creature comforts at Rock HQ and even wags her tail when she sees me now.
Today we had to take her to the vets to be spayed and you could see as we handed the lead over to the vet that Penn was thinking "Here we go again, I wont see you again will I?" I have never seen such sadness in a dogs eyes, it was really upsetting.
We collected her this evening and being such a big dog quite a big dose of anesthetic was used so she is pretty out of it. When they opened the kennel door she was flat out but as we bent down to carefully carry her to the car the end of her tail twitched twice as she recognised us.
Shes comfortable on the dog bed in the lounge, I wouldn't be surprised if she stays a while here at the Rock.
